Experience the APDA difference
Australia's most progressive Physie & Dance association. Striving for excellence - driven by passion.
The Australian Physie & Dance Association was created with the vision to produce a sport that incorporates the fundamentals of Physie through the art of dance. Through the dedication and passion of a network of Physie & Dance professionals, a contemporary, relevant and transparent platform for our sport was born, benefiting our students fitness, strength, flexibility and technique while embracing the fun and movement of dance.
APDA is a fusion of Physie and the art of dance. Members learn 4 – 6 choreographed routines throughout the year, each with its own specific skill-set and focus on movement, musicality, technique, performance, flexibility, cardio and strength – all in one class!

25 years in Redland City
Redlands Physical Culture Club (Redlands Physie & Dance 2012, Millennium Dance Co. 2015) was launched in 1998 by Carol Brettell.
Carol very quickly made her mark in the Bjelke-Petersen School of Physical Culture (BJP) Physie world running a very successful physie club in Queensland.
Proudly celebrating 24 years in the Redlands, MDC is a 4th generation Physie family owned and run club! Carol’s passion, expertise, musicality, and attention to detail was certainly passed down from her beautiful mother, Betty Bedford.
Carol created a legacy which she shares with her beautiful daughters, Alana, Kara, and Tahlia along with her very talented granddaughter Jayla. MDC would not be the club it is today without the vast knowledge, dedication, and pure love for this incredible sport Carol has passed down.
In the year 2000, we achieved our first (and second) National Champions, the 6-year-old NATIONAL TITLE and the 16-year-old NATIONAL TITLE at the BJP Nationals held at the Sydney Opera House!
Fast forward to 2022, our club has now won an impressive 60 NATIONAL TITLES across BJP (22) and APDA (38) as well as, 3 overall APDA Lady Grand Champion titles.
Over the years, our club has been very successful. We have won many team and individual State Titles and been awarded numerous National top 6 individual placings. A sensational highlight for our club was winning 2 overall National Championship Grade BJP Teams.
In 2012, a network of Physie professionals, including Alana, created a vision for a more progressive form of Physie in line with the dance world with open and transparent judging. The innovative Physie entrepreneurs worked hard for over 12 months to create the innovative association.
Our club (Redlands Physie & Dance) made the decision to embrace the new and exciting association. Australian Physie & Dance Association (APDA) not only as a founding APDA club but also being the only Queensland club to transition from BJP.
Alana continues to inspire the growth of APDA in Queensland. Having taught and encouraged multiple teachers within our club to open their own APDA Queensland clubs whilst mentoring the running and progress of their clubs.
In 2015, Millennium Dance Co. officially launched with the goal to continue to provide a nurturing and supportive dance family. MDC prides itself on club spirt and inspiring girls and women of all ages to dream and achieve their goals no matter how big or small!
MDC North launched in 2021! This has always been a goal of our co-directors to open a second location, we are so incredibly proud to see our goal come to life! Unfortunately, Covid challenges presented trying to build the new location. We are so proud to say in 2022 we have re launched even better than we could’ve ever dreamed in Geebung!
Tahlia spent her teen years training as a pre-professional ballerina with the Australian Ballet School, Ballet Theatre of QLD and full-time excellence programs completing a Diploma of Elite Performance and all Royal Academy of Dance exams up to Advanced Two with high distinctions.
Unfortunately, due to injury, Tahlia was unable to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina. Tahlia’s passion is now inspiring our members and passing on all her incredible knowledge of technique, performance, and elite training.
Tahlia has won the APDA National Title three times and was a consistent top 5 place getter in BJP from the age of 7 years old through to 13 years.
Alana is a Physie girl through and through and has achieved some incredible results - most only dream of! Alana has won the BJP National Title three times, APDA National Title seven times and won overall APDA Grand Lady Champion three times. Alana shares her love and passion of our amazing sport with her own daughter, Jayla. Jayla has achieved an incredible 6 consecutive National Titles!
One of the most beautiful moments for us as co-directors is seeing our students start dancing with us from a young age and watching them transform into beautiful mature and humble dancers. In 2022, our MDC Teaching team also includes, one of our longest standing students Laura who started with us when she was just 4 years old. Laura has placed in the top 5 at Nationals every year since she was 7 years old including 3 National Titles! Also Aleasha, who is a life member of MDC and top 6 National Placegetter.
Alana and Tahlia continue to co-direct MDC together along with the wisdom of their mother Carol. Our vision at Millennium Dance Co. is to create an environment where all dancers are welcome no matter what age, ability, or background. We promote club spirit and create a second family for our members where they feel safe, supported, encouraged, and inspired.
